Winter Narrative
Christmas break was full of many fun times and brand new memories, and I now realize that one will stick with me for many Winters to come. New Year’s was always meant to be fun and mine this year will top those of the past thanks to a little something extra. No, it wasn’t the super large bottle of sparkling cider, nor was it the ball dropping once again. This time it was Guitar Hero World Tour and a group of people who really knew how to rock out all night.
Shelly, my co-worker, and her husband Tom invited me to go help celebrate New Year’s with them in Eaton. I was skeptical of the idea since mostly younger kids were supposed to be there and none my age. Diana, who I also work with, had insisted on me going just to hang out with my little brother. Aron and I have different moms, but Diana and I still get along very well. The job I have is a result of her love and help over the years. Speaking of my job, another one of our friends from work was supposed to come and bring her kids along too. One hyped event of the night was playing video games, and when I arrived they still hadn’t started. I finally suggested we get the fun going while I finished up my food. After setting it up we figured out who would play instruments and who would sing the song. It ended up being me on the guitar, Diana plus Jen on the mic, and Shelly on the drums while the rest of the crowd cheered on. I love guitar hero with a passion and was ready to show off my expert skills. None of the kids or parents there had seen anyone play on expert, with the exception of my little brother. I hadn’t really watched anyone sing or play drums so it was new to me. We all ended up getting really into it and played for hours that night.
With voices worn and hands hurting, we finally called it quits late into the night. I soon came to find, out of all the things I did on break this was the most interesting. It didn’t take much to entertain us, but we all had a blast and made a time to remember. I’ll have to send an invite for the next break off of school so I could rock out to Guitar Hero World Tour again.
